Frequently asked questions about Surgical Procedures in MySaskHealthRecord

Q. I have a new icon called Surgical Procedures on MySaskHealthRecord – what is that?
Surgical Procedures is a new feature added on March 15 that will give patients information on their past or pending surgical care.

Q: What information will I be able to see that relates to my scheduled surgery?
The following information will be visible in your MSHR account on the website or in the mobile app:

  • Procedure name(s) and specialty
  • Scheduled procedure date
  • Specialist/surgeon's name
  • Procedure location/facility
  • Status of procedure
  • Surgical procedures history (e.g. cancellations or postponements)
  • Notifications for surgical procedures via email (new and updated as well as in-app mobile push notifications)
  • Surgical procedures information from 2018 onwards
Q. What date will be used in the system when I am waitlisted?
The date that will appear in MSHR will be the date the complete surgical booking package is received at the OR scheduling office (please allow 7-14 business days following the consent discussion for new entries to appear in MySaskHealthRecord.).

Q. Will I be able to see information about a surgery I was already booked or waiting for prior to the new Surgical Procedures feature, or are only new upcoming surgeries booked or added since that date visible in MySaskHealthRecord?
You will be able to see information about a surgery you were already on the waitlist for as well as a history of surgical procedures from 2018 forward.

Q. What is the process for information to be updated into Surgical Procedures?

Q. Will my healthcare provider be able to see the same information I can about my upcoming procedure?
Healthcare providers won't be able to view your surgical procedure information in MySaskHealthRecord. You can bring your device to appointments to share information on screen with them if you like. Healthcare providers also receive regular updates so even though they can't access your information through your MySaskHealthRecord, they still receive up-to-date information.

Q: Which procedures will not be visible in MSHR?
Patients will not receive notifications for incomplete emergency procedures (including emergency c-sections), but the final procedure report will be visible in the history. Completed emergency procedure reports will be available from 2018 forward.

Endoscopy procedures will not be visible in MSHR during the first phase of implementation.

Q: Will scheduled organ donation information be visible in MSHR Surgical Procedures?
Yes, you will be able to view scheduled organ donation information if you are either the recipient or are donating an organ as a living donor. [TJe2] [KJe3] The MSHR account for a deceased donor will be deactivated once the death is reported through the provincial client registry. Information will remain active for the donation recipient.

Q. Will I be able to see where I am on the waitlist for my procedure in MSHR? For example, what number I am on the list, how many people are ahead of me, or how I long I should expect to wait?
You will be able to see the date that you were added to the waitlist, but you will not be able to see where you are on the waitlist relative to other patients or the length of the wait.

Q: Will I be able to share information about my scheduled procedure with family members or other providers, if I wish to?
You will be able to manually show others your information by physically sharing your computer screen or holding up your device with the mobile app. You can also add proxy access to your account to a family member or caregiver. Parents and guardians are able to add minors (14 years and younger) to their MSHR account.

Q: I have been scheduled for surgery, where can I see details online?
If you have a MySaskHealthRecord account, you can click on the Surgical Procedures widget online or in the mobile app, to see your scheduled surgery.  Please allow 7-14 business days following the consent discussion with your surgeon for new entries to appear.
