Who can apply for a marriage certificate
The following people may apply for a marriage certificate or a copy of the marriage registration.
Either party to the marriage
Either spouse can apply.
Adult child of the marriage
An adult child of both people in the marriage can apply if they are 18 or older.
Someone applying for you
Someone you choose can apply for you if you give written permission.
A completed Authorization form must be sent with the application.
Legal guardians or custodians
A legal custodian, personal guardian or property guardian of an eligible person can apply.
You must include one of the following:
- a court order
- a custody agreement
- another legal document
Métis or Treaty Status
You can apply if you need a marriage certificate to confirm Métis or Treaty Status.
You must include one of the following:
- a letter from Métis Nation-Saskatchewan (MN-S) or Indigenous Services Canada (ISC)
- an application submitted by MN-S or ISC with your written consent
