MySaskHealthRecord made a difference when we needed it most

On Boxing Day, I was in the Emergency Room with my elderly mother awaiting care. While doctors ordered tests and scans, I was able to monitor her results in MySaskHealthRecord as they became available. By the time the care team came to update us, we had already reviewed the results and were prepared with questions about next steps. 

As new lab work and imaging were completed, I regularly checked the relevant sections in MySaskHealthRecord to follow her progress and stay informed throughout the visit. 

Having access to her information in real time helped us better understand what was happening and prepare for conversations with her health care team. Without MySaskHealthRecord, we would have had to wait for updates from providers before knowing the results or discussing next steps. 

If you're caring for yourself or a loved one, I highly recommend setting up MySaskHealthRecord before you need it. My family members each have their own accounts, and where appropriate, our senior parents have granted proxy access so we can help monitor their health information and follow-up care. This has been especially valuable as one of our parents lives with Alzheimer's disease. Having health information readily available has made appointments, follow-ups, and care discussions much easier, and gives us greater confidence in managing health care needs as they arise.
