Frequently Asked Questions

eHealth takes great care to protect your personal health information. Records are kept in strict confidence and are only disclosed to those authorized to see them. Privacy safeguards outlined in The Health Information Protection Act (HIPA) apply to the information at eHealth.

Only health care team members involved in your care can view your personal health information. Those team members are aware of the need to maintain confidentiality. Access to your records is on a need-to-know basis.

Each time someone looks at your health records, that information is recorded and tracked for auditing purposes. Some systems have the ability to allow you to “mask” your information. This will block access to a record. However, it can still be viewed in an emergency or if you give your consent. For more information on how to request a mask, please see “Restricting Access to Information”.

Strict security safeguards have also been put in place. These safeguards are designed to protect information from unauthorized use or loss.

HIPA's regulations are designed to protect your personal health information. eHealth is required by this legislation to make sure appropriate safeguards continue to be in place. Information is often transferred between different health care agencies. eHealth works closely with these organizations to make sure patient information is safen when it’s being transferred between systems.

Yes, this option is available to them if a particular course of treatment cannot be recommended due to a lack of information. If your information is masked, you may give a specific health care team member consent to view your masked record. If you change your mind on masking, please see “Restricting Access to Information” for the process to submit the request. Once the request has been received and processed, your masked record will be available for authorized health care providers to view as needed.
