Vital Statistics registers births, deaths, marriages, stillbirths and changes of names in the province of Saskatchewan. eHealth Saskatchewan issues certificates as legal proof of these vital events. Much of the information we have on file may be searched and obtained.
Search online for births registered in Saskatchewan more than 100 years ago and deaths registered more than 70 years ago.
Access to records
The legislation governing these records designates certain records as ‘open' records. These records can be accessed by clicking on the Genealogy Index Searches link above. All other records are restricted or ‘closed'. Access to restricted records is governed by legislation and policy.
Indexes (open records)
The index contains those births registered with Vital Statistics more than 100 years ago, and deaths registered more than 70 years ago. Marriages registered more than 75 years ago will eventually be added to the online index. Records in this index can be found by using the Genealogy Indexes Search link above.
Restricted (closed) records
Applications for genealogical photocopies can be processed more quickly when full and accurate identifying information about the vital event is provided. Please note that Vital Statistics does not handle speculative searches pertaining to vital events where the applicant cannot provide the required identifying information.
Searches of restricted records and the issuing of a photocopy of the original record for genealogical purposes are conducted by Vital Statistics staff in accordance with provincial legislation and policy.
All vital events are registered individually and no cross-references are made between events to establish family relationships.
Who can apply for a genealogical photocopy of a restricted record
The eligibility rules for obtaining a genealogical photocopy of a restricted record are the same as those for obtaining Birth Certificates, Death Certificates and Marriage Certificates.
